Richard E. Dahlberg Scholarship
This scholarship is established to provide recognition for outstanding students in the area of cartography / geographic information systems (GIS) and to honor the memory of Dr. Richard E. Dahlberg, a former faculty member at Northern Illinois University. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a student enrolled at Northern Illinois University. Application material is due April 1st of each year. Awards for each academic year will be announced in early of May of that prospective year; award payments will be processed after the start of the fall semester in September.

To be considered for this award, applicants should submit:

  1. a letter of interest to the Chair of the Scholarship Committee indicating academic interests and plans
  2. a formal application on the form provided by the department
  3. two letters of reference with at least one from current or recent teacher

The scholarship shall be awarded for one academic year. Recipients should be pursuing a degree in Geography from Northern Illinois University with an emphasis in Cartography/GIS and be able to demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to graduate students and undergraduates scheduled to graduate within the next academic year. Students shall demonstrate a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a scale of 4.

The Richard E. Dahlberg Scholarship is awarded on the basis of need and merit without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation or disability.
