The Advanced Geospatial Laboratory (AGL) had its beginnings in late 1995. At the time the need for a lab to expand beyond student classrooms was desired to further ongoing research in the field of GIS. Since then, the lab has grown in size and processing ability with the addition of a dedicated GIS server, multiple workstations, a large format scanner and several printers/plotters with the major emphasis of Intergraph software as the underlying GIS software.

Research focus at AGL has centered on GIS development. This includes new ways to convert existing vector data from a static environment to a GIS. In addition, research relating to the fields of NES, meteorology and urban planning has been prototyped as well. Lab projects which are developed through this research helps students keep current with "real world" issues relating to the field of GIS.

To date we have had more than 90 students from Business, Math, Sociology, Psychology, Geology, Geography, etc; work on varying research projects within this lab. The lab is a non-for-profit environment that is student based and is under the directorship of Philip Young.
