Endeavors
My research emphasis has primarily focused on mesoscale convective systems
that produce damaging long-track windstorms known as derechos. I have investigated
the synoptic and mesoscale environment associated with these storms and developed
a climatology documenting when and where they occur in the Eastern United
States.
In addition, I am also involved in research examining feedbacks between human-induced land cover changes and the distribution of hazardous weather. One focus examines the controls on the distribution of lightning in urbanized areas.
Other research interests include the examination of low-level moisture and its role in MCS formation, developing surface dewpoint climatologies, and the utilization of remote sensing techniques for identifying storm damage.
